I hate the Republicans. And the Democrats. And the other parties. But I love, love, love Pico de Gallo

Okay, not really, except I really do love pico de gallo. I just hate the intransigence of people who can't seem to get their acts together. Whether it is the Executive office butting heads with the Legislative, in some kind of pissing contest as to who is the smarter person, or the lobbyists and their attempts to buy the government (note to self, I think they are succeeding), the stupidity of the activities they get caught in, namely, the Weiner weiner scandal, I don't know.

Then there are the smallish subsets of Muslims and Christians who like to destroy buildings and people... well, I think any aliens who may have thought about landing here have had second thoughts and steered clear, as humanity in general seems to be about as sane as a deer in November.

I read in the papers about the guy in Norway who blew up a building and then shot 80+ young adults. And I heard about the reason he did it. My thoughts ran something like this, "I don't think I could worship a God who tells his followers to go out and kill them as don't follow him, and I wouldn't care what he was called. Such a personage is not worth following."

I'm tired. Of stupidity, of brinkmanship, of lunacy.

So here is a recipe for pico de gallo. My kids love it, and I usually have to fight them for the chance to eat a little bit. Which is, if you ask me, a good reason to head out to the store and get more of the ingredients, so as to make more. No more fighting, okay?

Pico de Gallo

Very, very large bowl (I use one that holds three quarts)
20-30 fresh tomatoes diced (Fill the bowl. Trust me. You won't be sorry later you made too much, but you will if you make too little)
1 onion, diced
1 head of garlic, chopped fine
1 bunch of cilantro leaves, chopped (about 1/2 cup after chopping)
1 lime, juiced (just use the juice)
1 or 2 jalapeno peppers, chopped fine (seeded if you are not into really hot things, and adjust the number/amount for that as well, or they can be left out entirely, or you can substitute bell pepper)
salt to taste

Stir everything except the salt together in a large bowl. Taste and add salt. Cover and refrigerate until the next meal/you can't stand waiting any longer. Eat with tortilla chips. Leave some for everyone else. Go out the next day and get all the ingredients and make again.
